I’m not going to deny that I am the type of person who can get easily stressed. To those of you who know me personally, I sense some raised eyebrows. Haha. But trust me, I do get easily stressed. (Why? Well, it deserves another blog entry. ) This is exactly why I am a believer of hobbies as a stress reliever. I am a believer because I live and breathe the struggle. Jk. Honestly, whether it is to relieve stress or treat eustress, I just think hobbies are the best there is; just like my hobby called modern calligraphy, the art of writing beautifully.
My modern calligraphy journey started when my friend Therese coaxed me to attend a basic calligraphy class sometime in July 2015. Then the rest was history. I fell in love despite of how it tested my patience and skills in using the pointed nib and all. It took me more than months to be able to do calligraphy decently. It isn’t an easy journey to take (still learning until now) but no regrets. I’m glad I did it.
Then sometime in November 2015, my partner/friend Mae, thought about us facilitating a modern calligraphy and watercolor painting workshop in our hometown (Ormoc City, Philippines). After several meetings and brainstorming sessions, we came up with the Modern Calligraphy 6541 workshops. We’ve had three workshops since then. 🙂
With this hobby, I’ve learned and gained so many things other than holding a pointed nib and making sure the ink gets into the paper thing. 😛 I met a lot of talented, young (and younger) people and I just love how their creativity and energy just rubs off on you. I just know there can never be an end to learning especially if you are open and willing to own it and just be generous. You can never shut the door. Never. 🙂
Our workshop calligraphy kit consists of handouts, place card, ink, clipboard, holders, nib, pad, and brown envelope. I will post another entry about the kit.
Some of the talented students in one of our workshops.
A sample calligraphy output from one of our students. How lovely it is considering she just learned it the first time. Simply impressive. 🙂
In my upcoming posts (part 2 and part 3) about this hobby called Modern Calligraphy, I will be sharing some useful tips in calligraphy and some pictures from the workshops we’ve had so far. I will also be giving away freebies and prizes! I can’t wait!
